SmcElytra

Custom elytra wings for Bedrock players.

SmcElytra is a Geyser extension made by SayMC that fixes this. It detects which custom elytra a player is wearing and shows the correct wing texture on the Bedrock side — per player, in real time.

SmcElytra requires the SMCConverter plugin to function. SMCConverter generates all the necessary Bedrock pack files and configuration during conversion — without it, the extension will not work.

Proxy support is not available yet. SmcElytra currently only works when Geyser is running as a Spigot plugin on the same server as SMCConverter. Proxy support is planned for a future update.

Requirements

  • Geyser-Spigot — a recent snapshot build
  • Floodgate — required for Bedrock player identification
  • Java 21 or later on your Paper server
  • SMCConverter plugin — required. Generates all necessary files for the extension to work

Installation

  1. Place the extension jar Drop smc-elytra.jar into your Geyser extensions folder:
    plugins/Geyser-Spigot/extensions/smc-elytra.jar
  2. Run SMCConverter Run /smcc in console. SMCConverter detects your custom elytras, generates all required Bedrock pack files, and writes elytra-list.json automatically. No manual file editing needed.
  3. Restart Geyser Reload Geyser or restart the server. You should see in console:
    [SmcElytra] SmcElytra loaded
[SmcElytra] Loaded N custom elytra matcher(s)
  4. Test in game Equip a custom elytra as a Bedrock player. The wing texture should change and gliding should work normally.

Configuration

On first startup the extension creates its config at:

plugins/Geyser-Spigot/extensions/smcelytra/config.properties

trace

Enables detailed logging for every elytra detection event. Useful for debugging. Disable this in production.

  • true — logs every variant change to console
  • false — silent unless there is an error (default)

elytra-list.json

This is an internal configuration file used by SmcElytra to recognise your custom elytra items. SMCConverter generates and manages this file automatically — it is written to the correct location every time you run /smcc. You do not need to create or edit it manually. SmcElytra cannot be used without SMCConverter.

Note: If you make changes to your elytra items, simply re-run /smcc and the file will be updated automatically. A Geyser reload is required afterwards for changes to take effect.

Adding Custom Elytras

If you are using SMCConverter, adding a new custom elytra is fully automatic. Add the item to your java pack and re-run /smcc. The converter detects it, updates the Bedrock pack files, and updates elytra-list.json.

A full Geyser reload is required after each conversion for new elytras to appear.

FAQ

Make sure you are running a recent Geyser snapshot build. Check console for any [SmcElytra] error messages on login or equip. If no errors appear, the extension is working correctly — gliding should function normally with any custom elytra.
This usually means the Bedrock pack files are missing or outdated. Re-run /smcc to regenerate them. Also make sure your Bedrock client has accepted and downloaded the latest resource pack.
Enable trace=true in config.properties and reconnect. Check console for variant detection lines when you equip the elytra. If you see item_model=null every tick, make sure you are on a supported Geyser snapshot build. If you see the correct variant detected but no visual change, re-run /smcc to regenerate the Bedrock pack files.
If the Geyser-Spigot folder is not detected (for example on a proxy setup), SMCConverter writes elytra-list.json to the conversion output folder alongside the mcpack instead. Copy it manually to plugins/Geyser-Spigot/extensions/smcelytra/elytra/elytra-list.json.
Yes — Bedrock players see the correct custom wings on both themselves and other visible Bedrock players wearing custom elytras.
Not currently. Only static texture elytras are supported. Animated and 3D geometry elytras are planned for a future update.
